About

Michael Feld is a comedy director and documentary filmmaker based in Los Angeles. After receiving his MFA at The University of Southern California in 2010, he directed the documentary One Big Holiday for the band My Morning Jacket, which was released with their 2011 album Circuital.

He was part of the editorial department for the Judd Apatow produced film The Five-Year Engagement and worked as a writer’s assistant for three seasons on American Dad! before leaving to pursue his own filmmaking.

In his filmmaking, he traveled over 13,000 miles to make a music video/travel film that documented his love of Huey Lewis and the News by visiting every city mentioned in their song “The Heart of Rock & Roll”. The video amassed thousands of views and was featured on Gothamist, Spin and The AV Club.

Continuing to mix travel, film, and music, he flew across the world to see 90’s Nu-metal rockers Limp Bizkit perform in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia for his film Spasiba. The next year, he came face to face with his political opposites by embarking on a five-day Kid Rock cruise in his film Only God Knows Why. And in 2017, he marched on Washington with the Insane Clown Posse fans, the “Juggalos”, documenting their classification by the FBI as a violent gang.

In 2018 he took a break from documentary filmmaking to co-write and co-direct 40 Minutes Over Maui, a comedy about the 2018 Hawaiian missile scare that played the Tribeca Film Festival, Florida Film Festival, and nearly 50 other festivals to date.  He and his partner, Josh Covitt, are currently writing their first feature film as they develop a handful of other projects to create together.

When not making films, he can be heard playing drums in the heavy-psychedelic band Lord Loud whose music has been featured on the TBS show Animal Kingdom.
